With energy comes stillness

I had the most amazing experience this week. My best friend moved into a new place with a new roommate, and the energy in the place was terrible. I spent the evening with her, helping her hang photos and get settled - and of course we enhanced the feng shui throughout the space. The change in the energy in the space was amazing - not just from a Feng Shui perspective, but also from an interior decorator's perspective. When things are placed in the right places, it looks better too - but it FEELS soooo much better.

The space went from chaotic and somewhat cold to very warm and calm. After we finished, we sat down in the living room to talk. We had candles lit, and noticed the flames were not moving at all. The energy was so balanced in the room it was completely still. You could have heard, and felt a pin drop - in a good way. The peaceful stillness was so comforting I could have stayed there for hours.

Do you ever notice that sometimes a space just FEELS good? That's a good sign your Feng Shui is working for you - even if you don't know you are doing it.

If it doesn't feel good, well then know that you can do something about it. We totally transformed the entire place inside of 90 minutes - and we had to hang pictures, which was what took most of the time. Feng Shui doesn't have to be time consuming - but a few minutes of work can make a huge difference in your day.

So what are you waiting for?

If you aren't sure where to start - check out my 30 day post at the forum link to the left of this page.

Shifting Energy

It's after midnight. I have to be up by 7 in the morning, and I'm not remotely sleepy - which is not at all like me. I'm normally in bed by 10:30 and out by 11. But I can't get past the energy shift in my house tonight. I've been cleaning out my junk closet - which happens to be in my new office now. I knew it needed to be cleaned out, but I couldn't have imagined the shift in energy in this house. I've also done a couple of new Feng Shui activations in my office and in my husband's office - and one in the living room. I have a few more changes I want to make tomorrow.

Something hasn't been quite right. I needed to shift the energy in my home. I knew that even the slightest energy shift would make a big difference - but I was unprepared for how different it feels. It's funny - because I thought I had the Feng Shui in this house right. I had gone through every room in a very methodical manner. I did the Feng Shui in the house top to bottom. But things change, stuff gets moved, energy shifts - and there's always a way to improve things.

So the practical Feng Shui lesson for the day is this: Even when you think you're done, you aren't. If you feel stuck, like you need some movement in your life, do something. Clean out a closet. Move some stuff around. Who knows? You might stir up so much energy you can't sleep.....now back to my Ebay auctions!

Feng Shui isn't always the answer

Before you Feng Shui enthusiasts go postal on me, hear me out.

Feng Shui isn't always the answer in itself. I'll even argue that it rarely is the answer. Rather, it leads you to the answer. Having your space balanced opens doors for you. It leads you to helpful people, points you toward helpful circumstances, leads you to answers. Sometimes the answers requre learning hard lessons - like the one you are with isn't the one who is best for you - or that you need to make changes to make your relationship work. Sometimes the answers require work. People talk about using the Law of Attraction to lose weight. I've heard people who expect that if they just think thin, and do their Feng Shui to enhance their health area, they will automatically start losing weight. I really wish that could happen! What instead happens when it's working is they start feeling like exercising - or find a new activity. They start choosing healthier foods. They are led to the actions that will take them to their goals - but the end result doesn't magically appear.

This may not be the popular opinion, but I don't believe things just magically happen. Yes, we attract what we focus our attention on. Is that magic, or the results of actions that lead us on the right path? What Feng Shui does is balance the energy in the space where we live - so we can spend time in a relaxed state of mind. That allows us to see the answers. It allows us to be open to what will unfold. It makes us receptive to what we need to do, and to recognize answers when they appear.

More on this later - time to go to yoga. In the meantime, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Prelude to the 30 day Energy Makeover

How's that? 30 Day Energy Makeover? I'm still working on it. Maybe it should be life makeover?

At any rate, the title isn't why I'm here - it's about improving your life. I'm putting the finishing touches on the 30 day program and will have it launched very soon. In the meantime, I wanted to give you a few things to think about, and maybe give you a head start.

There are several things that are very important when it comes to feng shui. Probably the most important is clutter. Clutter holds in energy and keeps it from flowing. It holds you back. If you are having trouble in an area of your life, I'd be willing to bet there is a cluttered space in your home or office that corresponds to that area.

Without even knowing what direction is important, or what things need to go in different places, you can make immediate improvements by just following the advice your mom gave you all those years - clean your room!

An organized space is easy on the eyes, and easy on our brains. Looking at chaos can cause us stress, and looking at order generally makes us feel better. Now, I know there are those of you out there (like my brother) who thrive on chaos. If things were organized, you'd never be able to find anything. I used to be that way too. But once I figured out how to organize things so I could find them, it made life so much easier.

So here's your challenge - pick up the clutter. If you have time, organize it. If not, at least put it away in a closet somewhere until you have time to organize it. Eventually you will need to clean out the closets too, but for now, if you have a lot of clutter, hiding it will help.

If you are like my Mom and always live in an ordered space, the next step might be to clean out the closets or cabinets or drawers. Even those of us who are orderly have stuff stored that we never use, clothes that no longer fit, and stuff we just don't need. Take time to clean them out - even if it is just dedicating 15 minutes a week to do it.

Maybe you can watch American Idol in the bedroom and clean out your drawers during the commercials. Be creative! Just a few minutes of time will help you more than you can imagine.

Clearing the clutter and getting rid of things you no longer need will free up the space so new energy can flow in. Whether it's money you need, or better health, better relationships, or something else, you are more likely to bring that energy in if you make room for it.

So take some time in the next few days to notice where your clutter is, then take the time to do something about it - even if it is just 5 or 15 minutes. I promise you will feel better!

What if you could change you life in 30 days?

I've been thinking - there's so much stuff out there on Feng Shui. You can pick up hundreds of books and spend months studying them, only to have nothing to show for that time. Even if you go pick up the simplest "Feng Shui for the Average Joe" type book, it is 2 inches thick (granted it has a lot of pictures) and will take some time for you to figure out, without any help.

So I was thinking - what if you devoted between 5 and 15 minutes a day to improving the energy in your home for 30 days? Let's call it Extreme Energy Makeover, Home Edition. Well, it might not be extreme though. It might be gentle and uplifting. I'll have to work on some catchy slogan. But catchy slogans is not what I'm all about - it's making simple changes to your environment that make your life feel better.

So what if you had someone walk you through a short exercise once a day for 30 days? Would that be doable? Could you take a few minutes each day to do something simple that could change your life? And what would happen after 30 days?

I can tell you what happened for many people. I didn't do 5 or 15 minutes a day. I did maybe 15 minutes a week for 30 days - and after 30 days my social life was better, my life felt more balanced. I was sleeping better. My husband was sleeping better. Heck, even my dogs were sleeping better.

So I'm not talking about some grand life transformation or winning the lottery - I'm talking about real small changes here that have a big impact on your life. So what if all that happens is that you start sleeping better? Think of the residual results - you need less sleep, giving you more time to do the important things. You are better able to focus during the day. That greater focus leads you to greater success - at work, home, school - wherever you put your energy. Maybe your health starts to improve. Maybe you are less crabby and your relationships start to improve. Maybe your body just feels better and you are more uplifted, so you have the energy to do more things to help you feel better....

Get the picture? It's a domino effect. Yesterday my friend Sara and I rearranged the inside of the yoga room at the studio where we teach. Everyone today noticed the energy change. Students felt like the room was more open, balanced, peaceful. Imagine what that small change will do for the practice of everyone in the room. With balanced energy, they can focus more on their practice. I can't wait till tomorrow to see how it feels for me!

So let me know what you think. It will take a little work for me, but I bet I can come up with a 30 day road map that will help you change something about your life.

Here's where I need your help: Tell me what's bugging you. Tell me what 1 thing you need to improve in your life. Don't tell me you want to win the lottery either - but what 1 thing do you really need right now? More sleep? More harmony? Less fighting at home? More energy? More fun in your life? More time in your schedule? (No I can't manufacture time. If I could, do you think I would be sitting here writing?) Maybe you'd like to have more dates....I have a couple of friends who had that goal, and wait till you hear their stories!

Ok I'll stop for now - I want to hear from you. Let me know your thoughts.

Namaste,

Wendy
